About I Lost My Bird
Losing a pet bird is uniquely heartbreaking. They slip out an open window in a blink, and suddenly the sky feels enormous. We built I Lost My Bird because we believe no one should search alone — and because the person who finds your bird usually has no idea what species it is or how to reach you.
Our mission
Reunite as many lost pet birds with their families as possible, by making it effortless for the people who've lost a bird and the people who've found one to find each other. We do that with a friendly, map-based service and plain-language descriptions that anyone can use — no birding vocabulary required.
What makes us different
- Built for non-experts. Describe a bird by colour and everyday size comparisons — "green, about the size of a soda can" — not Latin names.
- Map-first. Location is everything when a bird is lost, so every post is a dot right where it matters — while keeping exact locations private for safety.
- Always free. Posting and searching cost nothing, and always will.
- Hopeful by design. Reunions happen every day, and we keep them front and centre.
Our guides & how we write them
Alongside the reunion tool, we publish practical guides on finding a lost bird, helping a found bird, identifying birds in plain language, and preventing escapes. Our guidance is grounded in widely-accepted avian-rescue practice and the real experience of the lost-and-found bird community — the techniques that owners and rescuers actually use to bring birds home. We aim to be practical and honest rather than generic, and we update our articles as we learn more.

Staying free
We keep the lights on with unobtrusive ads so the service can stay free for everyone who needs it. We never charge owners or finders.
